The invention relates to a method of controlling a transformation process, in which the reaction of feedstocks to form a product proceeds along a transformation boundary starting from the crystal surface and/or grain surface and/or phase surface and/or pore surface inwards into the feedstock, wherein one or more chemical elements in the feedstocks are released and/or incorporated and/or displaced and the reaction of the feedstocks takes place along the advancing transformation boundaries. According to the invention the feedstocks are identified on the basis of at least one optical, in particular microscopic, analysis with respect to their phases and/or phase fractions and/or their phase morphology, structure, texture and/or their chemical composition. On the basis of these factors, reference functions are assigned for the feedstocks, which reference functions describe the reaction of the feedstocks in the process, and are used to establish the process parameters of the transformation process.
