<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compressor stably operated for a long period of time by using a highly-reliable shaft. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A rotary compressor for a CO<SB>2</SB>refrigerant is a compressor storing a drive mechanism and a compression mechanism in a sealed casing. The shaft 22 transmitting the driving force of the drive mechanism to the compression mechanism is provided with nitrided or quenched base material 23, a manganese phosphate layer 24 laminated on the surface of the base material 23, and a molybdenum disulfide layer 25 laminated on the surface of the manganese phosphate layer 24.
