PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an intensity modulation method for terahertz wave and an intensity modulator for terahertz wave, controllable with high accuracy and easily modulating terahertz waves. SOLUTION: A tubular waveguide 13 is formed of a semiconductor to thereby propagate a terahertz wave from an incident light source 11 to the inside thereof. A modulating light source 14 is provided to apply light containing a wavelength corresponding to a band gap of the semiconductor forming the waveguide 13 to the outside surface of the waveguide 13. An adjusting part 15 is provided to change the intensity of light applied from the modulating light source 14. The terahertz wave is propagated to the inside of the waveguide 13, and light containing the wavelength corresponding to the band gap of the semiconductor is applied to the outside surface of the waveguide 13 by the modulating light source 14.
