PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To certainly release the media adhering to a roll without damaging the media. SOLUTION: A release roller 7 is arranged between a conveyance roller 14 for conveying it to a printing position with the media 2 inserted, and the roll 3. The exfoliation roller 7 is revolved by a release motor 9, and tears off the media from the roll 3 to its tangential direction. A sagging member 18 for relaxing the media 2 is formed between the exfoliation roller 7 and the conveyance roller 14, and a fixed tension (tension) is given to the media 2 torn off by putting a tension roller 8 on the sagging member 18. The relaxed amount of the sagging member 18 is detected by monitoring the lower end part of the sagging member 18 with a sensor using infrared rays. A printing device releases the media 2 by the release roller 7 so that the relaxed amount may be within a predetermined range and feeds the media.
