The air bag module has a gas bag housing (10) for accommodating a gas bag. A tubular gas generator housing (20) is connected with the gas bag housing and accommodates a gas generator. The gas generator housing is provided with two housing parts (21a, 21b), which are identical to each other and connected with each other using engaging pats. Each housing part form a cylindrical retaining region (25), in which a region of the gas generator is attached. The retaining regions form a retaining chamber for the gas generator. An independent claim is also included for a method for producing an air bag module.
