The mechanism, operated by a control shaft (1) and transverse selector peg (9), consists of a set of flat bars (11 - 14) extending parallel to sliding rods (19 - 22) with forks (15 - 18) to engage with gear claw couplings. The bars are located in a housing (7) inside the gearbox and are actuated individually by the selector peg to move in a straight direction relative to the gearbox casing and engage with the forks by notches in their lower edges.
