<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reliably record a broadcast program, which is recording-reserved for a mobile information terminal, by the mobile information terminal. <P>SOLUTION: The mobile information terminal determines the importance degree of a program to be recorded and then checks a successful reception ratio at the time when the program is recording-reserved (S2, S3). The mobile information terminal detects a level at which broadcast waves are received at a given interval irrespective of whether a program is being recorded or viewed, and stores data relating to the reception obtained from the detection. The foregoing successful reception ratio is included in the stored data relating to the reception. This data on reception enables determination of on what time period of what day of the week the reception probability (successful reception ratio) drops according to a behavior pattern of the user of the mobile information terminal, thus enhancing the precision of determining the possibility of reception at the time when the program is recording-reserved. The determination of whether to perform backup is implemented based on the importance degree and successful reception ratio (S4).
