PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the control of a gas pressure in a cryogen vessel and egress of gas from the cryogen vessel. SOLUTION: A method for controlling egress of gas from a cryogen vessel (12) housing a superconducting magnet (10) is presented. A controller (30) receives data indicative of a gas pressure in the cryogen vessel, and a controlled valve (40) controls the escape of cryogen gas from the cryogen vessel (12), and data indicating a state of the magnet is made available in the controller. Release of cryogen gas from the cryogen vessel is controlled by the operation of the control valve (40), controlled by the controller (30) in response to the available data indicating the state of the magnet.
