The present invention relates to an inhibitor of PAR-2 (protease-activated receptor-2) activity and to a cosmetic composition which is effective in alleviating pruritus or countering inflammation, which contain daphnetin as an active component. The cosmetic composition of the present invention has a highly outstanding effect in suppressing pruritus and a highly outstanding effect in alleviating atopic dermatitis. Additionally, it will be appreciated that it also has a highly outstanding effect in suppressing scalp itchiness and that daphnetin is an agent used to suppress pruritus or inflammation which is highly outstanding against both atopic dermatitis and dermatitis of the scalp without giving rise to any adverse reactions.
