<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of forming high-quality image by preventing an image carrier surface from being scratched by vibration of a separation claw resulting from vibration of a separation means by the effect of vibration of a process cartridge. <P>SOLUTION: The separation means includes a resin guide member that is a base of the separation means, the separation claw for separating transfer paper from the image carrier, a metallic reference plate fixed to the resin guide member, and a resin-made engagement member fixed to the reference plate.
