The present invention relates to the field of preventive and therapeutic veterinary medicine. In particular, it relates to compositions and methods for the prophylaxis or treatment of sweet itch in equine species, horses, ponies, donkeys. Provided is the use of ubiquitin, or ubiquitin-related molecule, for the manufacture of a medicament for the prevention or treatment of sweet itchin an equine mammal. Also provided is a composition comprising pharmaceutically active quantities of ubiquitin or ubiquitin- related molecule and tocopherol, together with an acceptable carrier. |
