A call function performance method of a portable terminal is provided to perform a call function while a SIM(Subscriber Identity Module) card is extracted from the terminal, thereby maintaining the call function performance even though the SIM card is abnormally extracted while a base station can quickly access information in the SIM card. When an SIM card is inserted into a portable terminal, information stored in the SIM card is copied to a memory of the portable terminal(201-203). When the SIM card is extracted, a call function is performed by using the information of the SIM card copied to the memory of the portable terminal for certain time(204). If the SIM card is not inserted even after the certain time elapses, the portable terminal is powered off(205-207). When the terminal is powered off, the stored information on the SIM card is deleted.
