PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent degradation in image quality due to insufficient brightness of light from a backlight. SOLUTION: A backlight brightness calculation part 121 obtains a backlight brightness of light emitted by a backlight based on an image signal of a display image. A moving image determining part 122 determines whether the display image is a moving image or not based on the image signal. A correction value calculation part 123 increases, when the display image is a moving image, a previous correction value by a prescribed value to set a new correction value and reduces, when the display image is a static image, the previous value by a prescribed value to set a new correction value. An addition part 124 adds the correction value to a backlight brightness to correct the backlight brightness. The present invention can be applied to a liquid crystal display.
