<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a crucible holding member manufacturable by a small-scale CIP (cold isostatic press) device, stable in the shape when a strong tensile force acts on its circumferential direction, also able to continue operation even when a crack is generated on it. <P>SOLUTION: The crucible holding member includes a quartz crucible receiving part 15 comprising a plurality of graphite split pieces 13 split in the vertical direction parallel to axial line L and arranged radially, and an externally fitted member 19 externally fitted to the body part 17 of the quartz crucible receiving part 15 annularly formed, for converging the quartz crucible receiving part 15 in the circumferential direction, and wherein the externally fitted member 19 is formed of a meshed body woven with strands comprising carbon fibers obliquely to the axial line L, and also a matrix is filled between carbon fibers of the meshed body. It is preferable that the meshed body has a first strand inclining to the axial line L, and a second strand inclining at the same angle as the first strand but in the opposite direction to it.
