PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a PDP with a long lifetime in which a refractive index of a protection layer is established at an adequate range against Xe gas partial pressure ratio in a discharge gas and sputtering resistance of the protection layer is increased. SOLUTION: The plasma display panel has a front plate in which a display electrode, a dielectric layer, and a protection layer are formed on a glass substrate and a rear plate in which an electrode, a barrier rib, and a phosphor layer are formed oppositely arranged and a discharge space is formed by sealing surroundings, and a discharge gas including Xe gas is filled into the discharge space. The refractive index of the protection layer is changed according to the partial pressure ratio of the Xe gas in the discharge gas. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
