<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a line thermal printer capable of preventing a line thermal head from nipping a foreign object. Ž<P>SOLUTION: This line thermal printer 1 includes the line thermal head 3 having a plurality of heating elements 5 which are arranged so as to face an entire area of a recording paper sheet 2 in its width direction and to selectively generate heat, and a platen roller 7 that pinches the recording paper sheet 2 together with the line thermal head 3. The line thermal printer 1 performs printing on the recording paper sheet 2 by selective heating of the heating elements 5 of the line thermal head 3 at a pinching position while transporting the recording paper sheet 2. A foreign object blocking member that blocks movement of a foreign object FB adhering to the upper face of the recording paper sheet 2 in a direction of the pinching position, is disposed so as to contact the upper face of the recording paper sheet 2 at an upstream side of the pinching position.
