PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for industrially manufacturing a biodegradable high molecular weight aliphatic polyester containing 2,5-furan dicarboxylic acid originating from a biomass and having excellent thermal properties, mechanical properties and processability. SOLUTION: A 2,5-furan dicarboxylic acid derivative represented by general formula (5) (wherein R<SP>5</SP>denotes H or a 1-8C alkyl group) is condensation-reacted with an aliphatic dicarboxylic acid and an aliphatic glycol.
