PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress volume of sound from a light source device at the beginning of ac lighting. SOLUTION: In this light source device including an ac high-pressure mercury lamp composed of an almost spherical light-emitting part in which a pair of electrodes are disposed face to face and mercury of 0.15 mg/mm<SP>3</SP>or more and halogen within a range of 10<SP>-6</SP>to 10<SP>-2</SP>μmol/mm<SP>3</SP>are enclosed, cylindrical sealed portions extending from both ends of the light-emitting part, and external leads which protrude from the ends of the sealed portions and in which an ac is input, a reflecting mirror having a concave reflecting part disposed so as to surround the light-emitting part and a cylindrical neck part, a connected cylindrical base member, an adhesive filled between the base member and the sealed portions to fix them, and an electric supply line connected to the external leads, when the length filled with the adhesive in the extending direction of the sealed portions is expressed by L1(mm), and the diameter of the sealed position is expressed by R(mm), L1/R≥0.5 is satisfied.
