PURPOSE: A backlight driving circuit and a driving method thereof are provided to prevent the flicker by grasping the property of an image and controlling the operation of a filter part based on the grasped property. CONSTITUTION: An average data generating unit(511) generates the n number of average data by calculating the average of data supplied to each display area. A dimming signal generating unit(506) generates the n number of dimming signals having duty rates based on the average data of each display area. A selective filtering unit(551) compares the dimming signals of the previous frame with the dimming signals of the current frame, determines the suddenly changed amount of an image which is expressed in the current frame, and then modulates the duty rates of dimming signals of the current frame based on the determined result.
