<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a means which prevents erroneous determination in abnormality determination of a ball screw device, and enables determination of abnormality in an initial stage. Ž<P>SOLUTION: In this abnormality determination method for the ball screw device 1 provided with a screw shaft 3, a nut 5 supported movably by the screw shaft 3 through a plurality of balls 2, a circulating route where the balls 2 circulate, and a vibration sensor 10 for detecting vibration produced by the balls 2 circulating through the circulating route, raw vibration data due to movement of the nut 5 is obtained with the vibration sensor 10; extracted vibration data is obtained by extracting it from the raw vibration data while restricting its frequency range; a standard deviation σ for evaluating variations in ball passage period Ti is found based on the extracted vibration data; and existence of abnormality is determined based on the standard deviation σ.
