Disclosed is a lithium battery (1) comprising a positive electrode (10), a negative electrode (11) and an organic electrolyte. The positive electrode (10) contains, as a positive electrode active material, a low crystalline manganese dioxide having a specific surface area of 8-28 m2/g. The negative electrode (11) contains, as a negative electrode active material, lithium metal or a lithium alloy. By containing the low crystalline manganese dioxide, the lithium battery (1) excels in storage characteristics at high temperatures not less than 100°C, large current discharge characteristics, large current pulse discharge characteristics, low-temperature discharge characteristics and the like. In addition, the lithium battery (1) is advantageous from the aspect of the cost. |
