<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bar code reading device and a bar code reading method for automatically detecting the existence of a bar code while extending the lifetime of a light emitting element. <P>SOLUTION: This bar code is provided with a light emitting element for emitting rays of light; a light receiving element for receiving reflected rays of light from a detection target object to which a bar code has been attached, and configured to acquire bar code information based on the light reception signal of the light reception element. This bar code is provided with a mirror mechanism for changing the emission direction of the rays of light emitted from the light emitting element, and configured to make a period when the light emitting element is made to emit the rays of light synchronize with the operation of the mirror mechanism for control, and to detect the bar code based on the light reception signal of the light receiving element, and when the bar code is detected, to control the light emitting element to emit the rays of light every time of scanning, and when any bar code is not detected, to control the light emitting element to emit the rays of light in the ratio of one time of scanning to several times of scanning. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT |
