[Class 53.] Gas exits.-A gas vent for a battery comprises three concentric tubes, the inner one 15 communicating with the atmosphere, while the outer one 1 has openings 6, 7 situated near the lower and upper ends. The middle tube 8 is provided at its lower end with mutually perpendicular diametrical passages 11, 14 communicating by means of an aperture 13 and an axial passage 12. The tube 1 may dip into the electrolyte when the battery is in an upright position in which case the apertures 6 are sealed and gas escapes through the apertures 7, 14, 13. When the battery is inverted the electrolyte seals the opening 7 and gas escapes through the openings 6, 11, 12 and through he tube 14 and aperture 13. |
