The elevator according to the invention comprises at least an elevator car (2), which is arranged to travel backwards and forwards in essentially the vertical direction along guide rails (28), and a safety gear disposed in connection with the elevator car (2), and also at least one overspeed governor, which comprises at least an overspeed governor pulley (2), which is fitted to rotate moved by the elevator car and which is connected to a safety gear that is in connection with the elevator car, preferably via an overspeed governor rope that passes around a diverting pulley and the overspeed governor pulley (2).
