<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a remedy of cerebrovascular dementia, safely usable over a long period, and to provide a food and drink and an auxiliary food containing the remedy. <P>SOLUTION: Histidine and/or a compound having the histidine at the N terminus exhibits activity for inhibiting neurocyte death by zinc, deeply concerning with the cerebrovascular dementia. The histidine has conventionally been utilized as a supplement, and is a compound of which the safety is highly evaluated. A product useful for the prevention or amelioration of the cerebrovascular dementia safely usable over a long period can be provided by the utilization of the histidine and/or the compound having the histidine at the N terminus. The histidine and/or the compound having the histidine at the N terminus can be either of a synthetic or a natural product. These are not necessarily required to be isolated, and the effects are exhibited only when an effective amount thereof is contained.
