<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of maintaining good fixation even in the case of using cardboard, such as postcards. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus 1 includes: an image recording section 400; a supply section 500 that supplies a recording medium 900 to the image recording section; a recording medium conveying path 100 leading from the supply section to the image recording section; a fixing section 600 for fixing a toner image on the recording medium that has passed through the image recording section on the recording medium by means of a heat roller 61 and a pressure roller 62; and a control unit 10 that discriminates the types of the recording medium. The control unit controls to switch between a normal mode where the surface temperature of the heat roller is controlled to be kept at a prescribed set fixation temperature and a cardboard mode where, when discriminating that the recording medium is the cardboard, the keeping control of the set fixation temperature is made invalid and the heat roller is continuously heated during a nipping period, that is, in a period when the recording medium is nipped and conveyed by the fixing section.
