<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a character input device which has little possibility of an erroneous input while reducing the number of times of pressing a key down. <P>SOLUTION: In a character input part 13, a plurality of subkeys each having a switch are arranged in the shape of a matrix. A CPU 21 calculates a probability value being a value obtained by estimating which character any subkey is turned on in order to input about the each subkey that is turned on when the subkey is turned on, in the each character, also accumulates calculated probability values and calculates a physical probability value being a value obtained by estimating whether all of the turned on subkeys are turned on to input a character in the each character on the basis of the accumulated value.
