<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of detecting the slot shape of a slot rod that can continuously measure the reverse angle and twisting pitch of an SZonSZ slot with high accuracy. Ž<P>SOLUTION: Values detected by scanning the rotation angle of the slot with respect to the axial center of the slot rod in a fixed cycle are held, and a value A of a present rotation angle is compared with a value B of a rotation angle scanned before a predetermined time T from the present. Rotation angles before 1/2T from the time when the value B exceeds the value A or is equal to the value A in a process from a state of the value A being continuously larger than the value B until a state of the value A being continuously smaller than the value B, are detected as maximum reversing parts PUA1, PUA2, etc. of the rotation angles. When the compared value shows a reverse large-small tendency, rotation angles before 1/2T from the time when the value A exceeds the value B or is equal to the value B, are detected as the minimum reversing parts PLA1, PLA2 of the rotation angles.
