<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a communication device which is capable of improving the conversational quality by suppressing echo during conversations in accordance with an occurring sidetone signal. Ž<P>SOLUTION: When a difference between the sound volume of a sidetone signal R and a prescribed value is ≤6 dB, the magnitude of a sound signal transmitted from a microphone 24a is reduced by this difference to reduce the magnitude of the occurring sidetone signal R, whereby echo occurring during conversations can be suppressed to improve the conversational quality because the sidetone signal R input to a speaker 24b of a handset 24 is reduced. When the difference between the sound volume of the sidetone signal R and the prescribed value is >6 dB, the magnitude of the sound signal transmitted from the microphone 24a is reduced to a fixed value "6 dB" at most to prevent the state that the magnitude of the sound signal transmitted from the microphone 24a is too reduced for a user of a communication device of the other party to hear sound.
