<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ultrasonic flaw detection method and an ultrasonic flaw detector that converges ultrasonic waves even in a material where abnormal refraction or the like occurs and improves the inspection property. Ž<P>SOLUTION: This ultrasonic flaw detector includes a first receiving step S3 of transmitting first ultrasonic wave from one group of transmitting/receiving sections on the surface to be inspected toward the bottom surface to be inspected using a delay time pattern, and receiving echo of the ultrasonic wave reflected on the bottom surface with another group of transmitting/receiving sections, a pattern setting step S4 of setting a first change delay time pattern where the timing of transmitting the ultrasonic wave is different, a second receiving step S5 of transmitting first change ultrasonic wave using the first change delay time pattern and receiving echo of the first change ultrasonic wave with another group of transmitting/receiving sections, and a determining step S9 of returning the process to the pattern setting step S4 when the waveform height of the higher one of the echo of the ultrasonic wave and the echo of the first change ultrasonic wave is lower than a predetermined threshold height.
