<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve well-balanced wide viewing angle display by providing one viewing angle compensation plate comprising a discotic liquid crystal layer. <P>SOLUTION: A first polarizing plate 11 is arranged on an outer face of a first substrate of a liquid crystal cell 1 sealing a nematic liquid crystal layer with liquid crystal molecules twist-oriented at a helix angle of 90° between first and second pairs of substrates with its absorption axis 11a facing a direction deviated at angle of 10±5° with respect to an orientation processing direction 2a of the first substrate, a second polarizing plate 12 is arranged on an outer face of a second substrate with its absorption axis 12a facing a direction crossing the absorption axis of the first polarizing plate at substantially 90°, and a viewing angle compensation plate 13 comprising the discotic liquid crystal layer with hybrid-oriented discotic liquid crystal molecules is arranged between the second substrate and the second polarizing plate 12 such that its optical axis direction 13a is in parallel with the absorption axis 12a of the second polarizing plate 12. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT |
