A system in accordance with a particular embodiment includes a wing (110) hav-ing an inboard portion (111) and an out-board portion (112), and further in-cludes a winglet (130) coupled to the wing at the outboard portion. The winglet can have a first surface (131) facing at least partially inboard and a second surface (132) facing at least par-tially outboard, with the first surface in-cluding a recessed region (150).
