The method involves directing a monochromatic light ray to an object (12) through a dichromatic mirror (26), where the monochromatic light ray is utilized as an excitation source (20). The directed monochromatic light ray is processed inside a scanning region (22) or a processing region (24) relative to the object, where a detected image includes different depths. An emission spectrum (36) is detected after passing through an emission filter (38) using a monochrome or color-charge coupled device camera (40).
