<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display device including a high quality display device and a touch panel, having a thickness designed in a free range according to characteristics of a used liquid crystal or a driving method without using any particulate spacers. <P>SOLUTION: The display device includes a display device with a first substrate, a second substrate, and a plurality of columnar spacers disposed between the first and second substrates, and a touch panel with an optical detection element.
