<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To generate a spectroscopic image having both high wavelength resolution and spatial resolution, while reducing the amount of calculation required for processing. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The apparatus includes: a first image sensor 1a having a first spatial resolution and a first wavelength resolution; a second image sensor 1b having a second spatial resolution higher than the first spatial resolution that the first image sensor 1a has and a second wavelength resolution lower than the first wavelength resolution that the first image sensor has; a matrix multiplier 1g generating a spectroscopic image having the first wavelength resolution and the second spatial resolution by causing each matrix generated by a matrix generator 1d generating a plurality of matrices from image data from the first image sensor 1a to operate on image data included in an imaging signal output from the second image sensor 1b; a weighted average calculator 1h; a region combining unit 1i; and a display 1j outputting the generated spectroscopic image.
