PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cellulosic substance film having a small photoelastic coefficient, a retardation film, an optically compensatory film, an antireflection film, a polarizing plate and an image display each using the cellulosic substance film.

SOLUTION: The cellulosic substance composition includes a cellulosic substance having a branched structure or a cyclic structure containing an aliphatic acyl group having from 4 to 30 carbon atoms, the aliphatic acyl group having a specific structure.
