<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stabilize damping force in a hydraulic shock absorber where a piston disposed on a piston rod attached to an outer tube is slid to a working oil chamber in an inside of an inner tube. Ž<P>SOLUTION: Upper and lower partition wall members 17 and 18 are provided on upper and lower two positions in the inner tube 12 along an axial direction, the working oil chamber 21 is delimited between the upper and lower partition wall members, and an oil sump chamber 22 is delimited above the upper partition wall member, the piston rod 23 attached to the outer tube 11 side is made to go through the upper and lower partition wall members, and is inserted into the working oil chamber in the inner tube, the piston 26 sliding in the working oil chamber in the inner tube is provided in an intermediate part of the piston rod held between the upper and lower partition wall members, the working oil chamber in the inner tube is partitioned into upper and lower oil chambers 21A and 21B by the piston, and a damping force generating part is disposed in a flow passage connecting the upper and lower oil chambers of the piston to form the hydraulic shock absorber.
