The invention relates to an identifying device comprising at least one electroluminescent wire (7) extending along the cable or conduit (2) to be identified. The electroluminescent wire (7) is to be temporarily electrically supplied in such a way as to visualise the course of the cable or conduit (2). Connecting means (27) are provided close to the terminal connectors (5, 6) of the cable or conduit (2) for the electrical supply of the electroluminescent wire (7). Said device can be used to identify electric cables, pneumatic and hydraulic conduits, or cords of optical fibres.
