<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image recording device which is provided with a means for detecting the prediction of the loosening of a recording medium (continuous paper) that is continuously supplied, evacuates a recording head from a recording position to an evacuating position in the case that any loosening is predicted, and prevents the recording head from being damaged by the contact of the recording head with the continuous paper. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A control section 20 monitors the output of a looseness sensor 7 when a carriage 12 is positioned at the evacuation position above at the beginning of recording and when the transporting speed of the continuous paper 6 reaches a recordable speed, and terminates the transporting of the continuous paper 6 to stop the recording process when the loosening of the continuous paper 6 is detected. Also even if the loosening of the continuous paper 6 is not detected at the recordable speed, the control section continues to monitor the output of the looseness sensor 7, evacuates the recording head from the recording position to the evacuation position when the loosening of the continuous paper 6 is detected, and terminates the transportation of the continuous paper 6 to stop the recording process.
