DEVICE AND METHOD FOR GRINDING CAMSHAFT

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and a method for grinding a camshaft suitable for grinding cams having a recesses.

SOLUTION: A work table 2 for supporting the camshaft CS having a plurality of cams CL ground in cam profiles and a second wheel spindle stock 20 for pivotally supporting a second grinding wheel 23 are installed on a bed 1 to be movable in the Y-axis direction parallel to the axial direction of the camshaft CS and in the X-axis direction perpendicular to the Y-axis direction relative to each other. The second grinding wheel 23 is pivotally supported on the second wheel spindle stock 20 about a second grinding wheel axis 24 parallel to an Z-axis orthogonal to an X-Y plane. The recess formed portions of event parts CL3 at two positions of the cam profile of the camshaft CS are so positioned as to face the second grinding wheel 23 in order. For each positioning, the relative movement of the second wheel spindle stock 20 to the work table 2 in the X-direction and the reciprocating relative movement in the Y-axis direction are simultaneously controlled through two axes to make the event parts CL3 of the cam profile perform a grinding generating motion for the recess G.
