<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for driving a main exhauster with which the back-streaming of waste gas of a high SO<SB>X</SB>part in a sintering machine into a low SO<SB>X</SB>part can effectively be prevented. Ž<P>SOLUTION: In the method for driving the main exhauster in the sintering machine, with which the waste gas in the sintering machine, is separated into the low SO<SB>X</SB>gas and the high SO<SB>X</SB>gas, and each gas is sucked with the main exhauster through wind-boxes, and only high SO<SB>X</SB>gas is subjected to the desulfurizing treatment, wherein the pressure P<SB>1</SB>in the low SO<SB>X</SB>side wind box and the pressure P<SB>2</SB>in the high SO<SB>X</SB>side wind-box, are measured, and the main exhauster is controlled so as to always becomes P<SB>1</SB>>P<SB>2</SB>.
