The apparatus has a double column comprising an average pressure column (MP) thermally integrated with a low pressure column (BP). A sending unit sends air flows (11, 15) uniquely to a main exchanger (MHE), and another sending unit sends air flows (11', 15') uniquely to another main exchanger (MHE'). A sending unit sends the processed air flows coming from the exchangers to the average or low pressure column of the double column without mixing the air flows in downstream of the exchangers and in upstream of the double column. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a distillation column incorporated with an air separation apparatus (2) a method for separating air.
