<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an endoscope which can improve the responsiveness of a curving controlling motion when the curving control for a curving section is performed by the feeding/discharging of a fluid. Ž<P>SOLUTION: For the curving section, lumens 82a and 82c and so forth as pressure chambers are formed at locations corresponding to the curving direction on the top and the bottom, and the right and the left in a multi-lumen tube 81 of an elastic member. The fluid is fed to/discharged from a controlling apparatus 4 through curving tubes 92a and 92c. When an operation of the downward curving is performed, if the operation is stopped, the fluid feeding stops. At the same time, a brake 95 in a vicinity of the rear end of the curving section is moved forward, and the rear end sides of wires 88a and 88c and so forth, of which the distal ends are fixed, are pinched by the tapering of a tube holding pipe 87 and the brake 95, and the telescopic motion of the elastic member is mechanically fixed and held.
