<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a low-cost single-core bidirectional optical module whose LD has good optical characteristics. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The single-core bidirectional optical module 1 includes a semiconductor light-emitting element 11 which outputs transmission light to be made incident on an optical fiber 21a, a semiconductor light-receiving element 12 which receives reception light projected by the optical fiber 21a, and a wavelength multiplexing demultiplexing filter 13b which transmits one of the transmission light and reception light and reflects the other such that the transmission light is made incident on the optical fiber 21a and the semiconductor light-emitting element 12 receives the reception light. Then the single-core bidirectional optical module 1 includes an optical isolator 40, constituted by forming a rotating element 40a which rotates the polarization direction of the incident light and projects the light and a wavelength band dependent polarization characteristic film 40b which has polarization characteristics to a specified wavelength band in one body, between the optical fiber 21a and wavelength multiplexing demultiplexing filter 13b.
