<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a monitor for a rope of an elevator can monitor the presence of an abnormality in a strand all the time by a simple constitution. Ž<P>SOLUTION: This monitor for the rope of the elevator is provided with a base (25) with a through-hole (27) which the rope (10) for the elevator formed by twisting a plurality of strands (13) penetrates, a signal layer (26) in which a detection signal flows, and a diagnosing unit (18) electrically connected to the signal layer (26). The base (25) is broken by the contact of the broken strand (13). The signal layer (26) is formed in the base (25) so as to surround the through-hole (27).
