<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a supercharging device for an engine capable of effectively preventing a drop of engine torque caused by a drop of actual supercharging pressure when an electric supercharger is stopped, and of generating smooth or linear acceleration feeling. Ž<P>SOLUTION: In the engine E, the electric supercharger 21 is driven for preventing supercharging lag due to operation lag of an exhaust turbocharger 19 in acceleration. The electric supercharger 21 is stopped when actual supercharging pressure reaches target supercharging pressure. If engine speed is less than boundary speed when the electric supercharger 21 is stopped, the drop of engine torque due to the drop of the actual supercharging pressure can be prevented by advancing close timing of an exhaust valve 6. If the engine speed is not less than the boundary speed, the drop of engine torque due to the drop of the actual supercharging pressure can be prevented by retarding close timing of an intake valve 1.
