PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a drum type washing machine which has a function of preventing intrusion of lints into a water suction side of the circulation route and a circulation pump by a filter when circulating water in a water tub by the circulation pump, so that a maintenance is unnecessary, and which is prevented from a careless contact with the filter and yet facilitates its attachment/detachment in case of an emergency. SOLUTION: The drum type washing machine is provided with: a rotating drum 4 formed into a bottomed cylindrical shape in the water tub 3 in such a manner that its rotary axis direction becomes horizontal or a downward slope from the horizontal direction, from the opened front side toward a back side which is to be the base, and the rotating drum 4 is actuated by the motor 6 to perform at least one of a washing process and a rinsing process; a water circulation system 16 which circulates water in the water tub 3 by the circulation pump 20 through the circulation route 31 connected to the water tub 3; and a filter 32 which faces inside the water tub 3, and filters water in the water tub 3 to be sucked into the circulation system 16 and the filter 32 is configured to be detachably attached from the outside of the water tub 3.
