PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for selecting a subchannel mode, and a MIMO communication system that uses the same. SOLUTION: The method according to one embodiment includes stages, wherein in which a mobile terminal estimates its channel-state information and determines a sub-channel configuration that is most suitable for data transmission to the mobile terminal on the basis of the channel state information; in which the mobile terminal feeds back the information regarding the sub-channel configuration determined to be most suitable for data transmission to the mobile terminal; and in which a base station determines a subchannel configuration to be used for a downlink, on the basis of the information regarding the sub-channel configuration fed back by the mobile terminal.
