System for optical coherence tomography

The system has an interferometer (20) to which light (14) is transmitted by an illumination arm (21) and split into partial beams by a beam splitter (24). A specimen objective, reference objective and an illumination objective illuminate a specimen (1) i.e. biological tissue, with a numerical aperture i.e. divergence angle of a light cone. The specimen objective and a group of lenses perform imaging of the specimen with a numerical aperture i.e. acceptance angle. The numerical aperture of the illumination of the specimen is smaller than the numerical aperture for imaging the specimen.
