The method involves providing multiple templates for generic specification of characteristics of a technical system. Configuration information is modeled as terms and conditions to presence of multiple characteristics and to allocation of variable parts of the templates with values. The templates and the information are described based on ontology. One of the templates used for the configuration information is determined using a reasoner. The values of the used template are instantiated. The template and the values are determined based on the modeling of the configuration information. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a technical system comprising a configuration management unit (2) a computer program product with a set of instructions for performing a method for computerized configuration of a technical system.
